Kerala to organise global meet

Kannur: The Kerala government has decided to organise a global meet before inviting global tenders for the development of Azhikkal port, Law Minister M Vijayakumar said today.

Inaugurating a seminar ''Development of Azhikkal Port,'' jointly organised by the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce and the Press Club here, he said the proposed Azhikkal port was included in one of the 17 notified ports in the country.

The government has appointed a consultant for making a project report for the construction of the port and the report would be received with in two months, he added.

The government had given a proposal to the Centre to include the Azhikkal port under the National Maritime Development Board, but it was rejected by the Shipping Ministry, forcing the government to set up the port under the PPP model, he said.
